Last Tuesday, June 7, Princess Martha Louise of Norway and her beloved shaman Durek announced their engagement. They shared the good news, and at the same time fresh photos, already in the status of the bride and groom, on social networks – a ring with a large emerald shone on the ring finger of the princess. The piece Durek had been designing for the past six months turned out to be meaningful, and one of his followers, jewelry designer Joy Sangalang Smith, helped hand it over to the shaman.

I did some historical research on all royal engagement rings and then went and looked at the rings in stores to come up with some cutting and design ideas. I then met with Joy to start sketching ideas through the stories I wanted to tell about the ring. One of them was about protecting her heart and honoring our Viking ancestors. It was important for me to maintain a strong heritage tradition, Durek said in an interview with People.

In the ring, the fiance of Princess Martha Louise displayed her family. The three diamonds on either side of the ring represent Princess Martha’s three daughters from her first marriage, which ended in 2016. And the 3.5-carat ethnic Brazilian emerald is a reference to the princess’s mother, Queen Sonja, who is a big fan of the stone. The shape of the ring is a protective emblem, while the couple’s union is represented by an infinity sign that can be seen from the side and an engraved love knot. The shaman entrusted the first to appreciate the delicate work to his student and friend Gwyneth Paltrow.

When I first received the ring, I showed it to my dear friend Gweneth Paltrow. I knew she was very picky about nice things, so I wanted her to see the ring first. And she said it was the most fantastic ring she had ever seen. She loved the thought and care I put into him and assured me that Princess Martha would love and cherish him. The seal of approval from a friend like her made me happy,” Durek admitted.

In the same interview, Martha-Louise shared her impressions of the iconic gift. The princess said that Durek made a marriage proposal to her under a sprawling tree, kneeling down.

I was shocked, and this powerful wave of emotion went through me, making me tremble. It was so touching and wonderful that the man I love more than anything in the world got down on one knee and asked: “Will you be my wife?” … I was in awe of how special and sacred he made this moment for us two. I couldn’t stop crying… And having my three daughters featured on my engagement ring meant the world to me. This shows that I have chosen the right man – a man who understands how much my children mean to me, and that my children will always be included in our relationship. I like that about him,” she said.

Martha Louise and Durek Verrett have been together since 2018. Before the affair with the princess, the Hollywood shaman had been in a relationship with a man for 8 years. However, according to the couple, despite Durek’s unusual occupation, Martha Louise’s parents and relatives accepted him into the family and established good relations with him.

Previously, Princess Martha Louise was married to the Norwegian writer Ari Behn – they got married in 2002 in Trondheim. In marriage, the couple had three daughters: Maud, Lea and Emma – now they are 18, 16 and 13 years old, respectively. Martha Louise and Ari Ben had many common hobbies, and in the year of their wedding, they released a joint book in which they talked about their love. But in 2016, they announced their separation after 14 years of marriage. Two years ago, on Christmas Day, the ex-husband of the princess committed suicide. The news came as a shock not only to the Norwegian royal family, but to the entire country. Martha Louise only spoke about it twice: a few days later she honored his memory with a post on her blog, and on the first anniversary of his death she dedicated another publication to him.
