Shakira and her children, Milan and Sasha, moved to Miami last April, where they now reside following her controversial split from Gerard Piqué.
The singer recently confirmed that her children, aged 10 and 8, are firmly in the so-called “City of the Sun”.
“They’re doing really well at school, they’re loving it. There’s something very positive about them here and that’s that they have a sense of normalcy,” he commented in an interview with Billboard, published on September 21.
He explained that when they lived in the Catalan capital, Sasha and Milan were “very sad” about being “children” and about the whole media situation.
“We had the paparazzi at the door every day. Here are just kids enjoying normality, what a school should be: a safe place where they can be themselves,” he said.
Although the artist believes it was “very easy for her children to adjust,” there was a time when she doubted that would happen, to the point where she reportedly looked for a way to help them.
How did Shakira want to support Milan and Sasha?
On September 25, Silvia Taulés, a journalist for Vanitatis, from El Confidencial, announced that Shakira supposedly “felt in the abyss” before leaving Spain.
“(She) thought about her children, who were born and raised in Barcelona, and the traumatic experience they had experienced with their parents’ separation,” she explained.
“And he was afraid they might suffer even more by moving home. “That in that bad time they had to add a journey and a new life on the other ‘side of the pond,'” he added.
That’s probably why “The Boss” interpreter concluded that he was doing something “unusual” in seeking to make the process easier for Sasha and Milan.
“The Colombian called and met with some of the parents of her children’s friends at school and made them a proposal that left them confused, to say the least,” Taulés says, citing her sources.
“She suggested that her children, little friends of little Pique Mebaraks, go with her to Miami. That they could attend school in the academic year 23-24 with her, that she was going to take care of them, educate them, support them, entertain them,” he explained.
According to the communication, what the singer-songwriter offered was “a year in the United States with all expenses paid and all amenities” and all because she was “fearful” that her children would not do well.
Shakira was supposedly willing to do more
According to Silvia Taulés’ story, the composer supposedly made a second proposal when he noticed the reaction of the children’s parents.
“Given doubts that she could see the responses of these families, Shakira dispelled the idea that she could help them find work in Miami as well,” he said.
“So whole families could move for a year as a learning experience, as an adventure, so that neither of their two children (Milan and Sasha) would have such a traumatic experience,” he added.
The communicator points out that the media consulted directly with “those affected” and that none of them reportedly “accepted the proposal.”
So far, the music superstar has not spoken out to deny or confirm this information that she is involved in.
