Police investigate new sexual abuse allegations against Russell Brand

Actor Russell Brand (“Rock of Ages”) faces further investigation by Thames Valley Police after a woman provided “new information” relating to complaints of “harassment and stalking” by the actor, according to BBC. London’s Metropolitan Police had already launched an investigation into the comedian and actor, who was accused of rape and/or sexual assault by four women in a joint investigation conducted by the Times of London, the Sunday Times and the “Dispatches” programme. Channel 4. Brand has vehemently denied the allegations.

The woman who made the new allegation had previously contacted police in the Thames Valley region several times between 2018 and 2022, but no action was taken. In 2017, Brand also accused the same woman of harassing him. Now, after the allegations against the actor reached the media, the police have decided to look into the information further, but consider it “inappropriate to comment on an ongoing investigation,” according to a police force quote to the BBC.

London’s Metropolitan Police also said it had received “numerous allegations of sexual offences”, without specifying any cases.

Consequences

Since the publication of the Times article, Brand’s comedy tour has been postponed and his publishing contract with publisher Pan Macmillan has been suspended. The BBC also removed some old programs presented by Brand from his app, saying the content “did not meet audience expectations”. To top it off, she demonetized his videos on YouTube. A platform executive explained that Brand should not be able to “earn a living” through the platform, but added that there are currently no plans to ban him.

Singer Katy Perry’s ex-husband has denied any criminal acts and said all his relationships were consensual. But in the first video published after the exhibition, Brand ignored the accusations to bet on a conspiracy theory, describing newspapers and TV that gave voice to the accusations as “these organizations”, which in his opinion collaborate “in the construction of narratives”. He promised new videos to denounce “the deep state, the military-industrial complex, big pharmaceutical companies, corruption and media censorship.”
