Danny Elfman, composer of “Simpsons” and “Wandinha”, is once again accused of sexual harassment

Danny Elfman, musical composer of such productions as “Wandinha,” “The Simpsons,” “Batman” and “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” has again been accused of sexual misconduct by a woman, who claims she was frequently exposed to the artist’s nakedness and that he had masturbated while she slept next to him. Documents filed Thursday (10/19) in Los Angeles Superior Court say the accuser was 21 when she met Elfman, then 47, in New York. The woman is identified as “Jane Doe” in court papers.

The accusation

The lawsuit names Elfman and her company, Musica de la Muerta, alleging that the composer committed sexual harassment, gender violence, intentional infliction of emotional distress, sexual harassment and negligence against her from 1997 to 2002. The alleged victim allegedly met Elfman at a party in April 1997. The two developed a friendly relationship, with the woman accepting frequent invitations to industry events, hoping to boost her music career. Elfman treated her as “a consultant and protégé,” according to her documents.

The relationship allegedly took a shocking turn one night in a hotel room, when Elfman allegedly “removed all of his clothing until he was completely naked, and walked naked in front of the accuser, exposing his genitals.” Elfman reportedly claimed that this was the only way he could work, be creative and succeed. The woman continued to see him, despite repeated exposures of nudity, and she claimed to have slept in the same bed with him naked several times, while she remained fully clothed. Eventually, Elfman would reveal that he masturbated during these sessions, leading her to cut off contact.

Previous accusation

This isn’t the first time Elfman has faced allegations of sexual abuse related to “protégés.” Last July the composer Nomi Abadi reported him for non-payment of an agreement reached in 2018, following a complaint to the police. The 2018 lawsuit also alleged that Elfman exposed himself and masturbated in front of Abadi without her consent on multiple occasions.

The legal document, exposed by Rolling Stone magazine, states that Elfman should make four hush payments to the singer-songwriter over five years, totaling $830,000. However, he did not honor the agreement, which was supposed to donate part of the proceeds to charitable organizations.

Successful career

Elfman achieved great success in the 1980s as the leader of the new wave band Oingo Boing, and moved into cinema collaborating with Tim Burton in films such as “Batman”, “Edward Scissorhands”, “Nightmare Before Christmas”, “Charlie and the chocolate factory”, “Big Fish and his wonderful stories” and many others. He also found success in director Sam Raimi’s projects such as “Spider-Man” and “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.”

His career has diversified with series such as “The Simpsons” and “Wandinha” (also by Burton), and films of the most diverse genres, in an impressive number of productions. In total, he received four Oscar nominations for “MIB”, “Good Will Hunting”, “Big Fish and Their Wonderful Stories” and “Milk”.
