While everyone was waiting for the appearance of Prince William and Kate Middleton at the opening of Royal Ascot, they unexpectedly attended a memorial service in Westminster Abbey. It was dedicated to the anniversary of the tragedy that occurred in the 24-storey Grenfell Tower in London, where a fire broke out in 2017, which killed 72 people. The service was organized by Grenfell United, which provided assistance to the victims and families of the victims.
The Duchess of Cambridge opted for an elegant fitted Suzannah London dress with contrasting buttons and white Alessandra Rich pumps with black capes. Kate’s simple but elegant outfit was perfect for such an event.
Before the beginning of the liturgy, the couple met with the survivors of the fire and those who lost their loved ones in the fire. And after Kate and William laid flowers in memory of the dead.

The royal couple did a lot to support those who were able to escape and the families of the victims: in 2017, together with Prince Harry, they made a large donation, responding to the Evening Standard’s appeal, to the Fund for the Disadvantaged. A couple of days after the fire, William accompanied the Queen on a trip to Grenfell, where they met with the victims, including local residents, members of the newly formed Grenfell United and rescuers.
The last time William and Kate met with Grenfell survivors was during a visit to launch the Duke’s National Emergency Fund in November 2019.
