The children of “La Diva de la Banda” filed a lawsuit against Don Pedro Rivera, on September 20, with the charge of “improper exploitation” of the singer’s recordings, as reported by Billboard magazine.
The patriarch of the Rivera family emphasized in an interview with journalist Pati Chapoy that his granddaughter Jacqie, who is the executor of Jenni Rivera’s estate, told him that I would make a proposal to reach an agreementbut according to the singer that never materialized, a version that contradicts the one given by Lupillo Rivera in October.
Jenny Rivera’s children sued their grandfather
According to the official complaint documents, shown by Billboard in September, Pedro Rivera is accused of “exploiting” the musical compositions he made. In addition, their companies, Cintas Acuario and Ayana Musical, would have exploited Jenni’s “name, image and likeness to the tune of tens of millions of dollars.”
The civil case states that what is being sought is “the correction of this alleged infringement and the protection of the artistic heritage” of the interpreter of “Inolvidable” and is requested refund of money collected and withheld by the parties.
Pedro Rivera would have tried to negotiate with his granddaughter Jacqie
In the interview broadcast on November 9 on the “Ventaneando” program, patriarch Rivera pointed out that it was his granddaughter who had promised to send him a proposal to reach an agreement, but would not do so.
“These materials belong to me,” he declared in the conversation with the Mexican journalist. “We talked to Jacqie, who was the one left as executor, and We agreed that he was going to suggest something to me moving forward.but he never responded, so they already went to the side of the lawyers,” he said.
“We only spoke once and about 10 days later I reminded him and he never responded,” she added.
Don Pedro pointed out that his dead daughter’s material allegedly belonging to him would be “about eight or ten of her complete albums”, he revealed.
Lupillo Rivera has another version
In early October, Lupillo Rivera spoke about the legal conflict between his father and his nephews and noted that it would be Don Pedro who asked the lawyers to solve it.
“From what I know and what Jacqie told me, my niece tried to go talk to my dad and see how they could work this out. My dad told her she had better through lawyers“, he said in a “live” he did via Facebook.
According to “El Toro del Corrido,” his niece ended up very affected by her grandfather’s reaction.
“I remember that day Jackie called me crying and she said to me, ‘Man, why did my grandfather tell me that?'” revealed Lupilo, who did not specify the date on which his niece would try to approach her dead mother’s father. “I told him: ‘I don’t know, my dear, I don’t know how to explain it to you.’ I told him clearly that I I did not know my father that day“, confessed the singer.
Rosie’s resignation from Jenny Rivera’s companies
Pedro Rivera also spoke about the resignation of his daughter Rosie as the executor and CEO of Jenni Rivera Enterprises, a situation that caused a new fracture between the children of “La Diva de la Banda” and her family.
“It’s a big family and each brain is a different world (…) I don’t know what happened, I don’t know how things were handled, I’m not involved in other people’s lives,” he said in the interview. with “Ventaneando”.
“I thought everything was fine because Rosie and Juan would invite me to the events they had, I always went and everything seemed normal, but suddenly things happened and I actually don’t even know how it happened,” she said.
However, Don Pedro was clear and said that despite the conflicts, his love for his grandchildren continues.
“I feel good, no matter what happens I will continue to love them, they are my blood“I will never give them a bad impression,” he said in the interview.
