Comedian Gil Brother Away, formerly of Hermes and Renato, has died at the age of 66


The comedian had been undergoing treatment since May after suffering a stroke. In his second semester he was diagnosed with prostate and bladder cancer.




Comedian Gil Brother Away, stage name of Jaime Gil da Costa, famous for being part of the MTV program, has died at the age of 66 Hermes and Renato. Gil’s death was confirmed on social media by family members this Monday 4th. He had been under medical care since May after suffering a stroke and was subsequently diagnosed with prostate and bladder cancer.

According to his nephew William Passos, Gil died on Sunday night, but the medical team was only able to inform the family on Monday morning.. Passos paid tribute on the comedian’s Instagram profile: “Heaven needed you, I know… Rest easy, uncle,” the publication reads.

Gil had been under medical care since May after a stroke and was admitted to the Correas Clinical Hospital, in Petrópolis, Rio de Janeiro. At the time, he underwent surgery to remove a blood clot in his brain. He also lost movement in the left side of his body.

The comedian began living at his nephew’s house in Petrópolis to receive more care. After 20 days, Gil was hospitalized again due to pneumonia. A few days later, he had to be hospitalized again when he was diagnosed with prostate and bladder cancer.

In the program Hermes and RenatoGil improvised characters from paintings such as Cozinha do Away and the criminal law professor Gilmar, from the painting Sinhá Boça.

He became known for selling candy in Petrópolis and dancing to James Brown and Little Richard songs in the street. The MTV team met him while washing cars in the area and hired him.
