Taylor Swift on Time: From falling out with Kanye and Kim to new relationship, see the biggest revelations from the interview

The singer was named “Person of the Year” by the magazine, cited a “completely made up conflict” in her feud with the rapper and explained how her relationship with American football player Travis Kelce began

Singer Taylor Swift was named 2023 “Person of the Year” by Squad. The annual edition of the North American magazine highlights the profiles of those who “most influenced the events of the year, for better or for worse”, the publication reads.

“Every year contains light and darkness; 2023 was a year with a significant amount of darkness. In a divided world where many institutions are failing, Taylor Swift has found a way to transcend boundaries and be a source of light,” the magazine said.

The nomination was announced by the vehicle on Wednesday 6th, accompanied by a rare interview with the artist. Taylor spoke about a variety of topics, including the re-recording of her albums, her feud with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian and her new boyfriend, NFL star Travis Kelce. Watch the interview’s key revelations:

‘Cancellation’ and falling out with Kanye and Kim

During the interview with the SquadTaylor Swift has spoken out about being “canceled” in 2016 after a public fight with her Kanye West. The two had been feuding since 2009, when the rapper interrupted the singer’s speech at an awards ceremony to say that BeyoncĂ© deserved to win the category in which Taylor won.

West released a song in which he called Taylor a “bitch” and claimed that the singer had given permission for the release. The wife at the time, the influencer Kim Kardashianposted a video of a conversation between the artists that seemed to indicate that she had actually agreed to the song.

The singer was identified as a liar by public opinion (the hashtag #TaylorSwiftIsOverParty – “Taylor Swift Está Acabada”, in free translation – was among the most used topics on Twitter). A Squad, revealed that he felt it was “the death of his career.” Years later, a complete version of the recording was leaked, proving that Taylor was unaware that she was being insulted in the song.

“It took me psychologically to a place I had never been before. I moved to a foreign country. I didn’t leave a rented house for a year. I was afraid to make phone calls. I drove most people away from my life because I didn’t trust them anymore. Anyone. I really, really sank,” he said.

Sale of the music catalogue

Taylor also spoke about selling the commercial rights to her albums and deciding to re-record them. In 2019 she left the Big Records Machine label because “the molecular chemistry of that old label was that every creative choice I wanted to make was questioned”, as she said Squad.

After the singer’s departure, the group was sold to the Ithaca Holdings company, owned by the businessman Braun scooter, who was friends with none other than Kanye West. The sale included the commercial rights to Taylor’s first six albums, meaning that whenever anyone wanted to use the songs commercially, Braun would be the one to reap the profits.

The two were also filmed walking side by side backstage at the stadium and captured in a convertible car after the game. It was the beginning of a great mobilization, especially in the United States, every time the two were seen together. She also accompanied Taylor to shows she performed in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

“It all started when Travis talked fondly about me on his podcast, which I thought was great. We started seeing each other shortly after that. So we spent a lot of time without anyone knowing, and I’m grateful that that’s the case, because there we got to know each other better. When I went to the first game, we were already a couple. I think some people think they saw our first date in that game. We would never have been psychotic enough to go on a first date,” he revealed.

He also commented on the fact that some sports fans were annoyed that he received a lot of attention when attending athletes’ games. “I don’t know how they know which box I’m in,” she said.

“There’s a camera about a half mile away, and you don’t know where it is, and you have no idea when the camera is putting you in the feed, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once. I’m just there to support Travis. I don’t realize if I’m showing off too much and annoying some parents, Brad and Chad,” she added.
