Gregorio Ordaz, a member of Jorge Domínguez’s Mexican Super Class team, died during a fireworks explosion on December 13.
The trumpeter’s death was confirmed by Giovanni Domínguez, son of the group’s leader, via a message on Facebook.
“We mourn the irreparable loss of a great man, colleague and friend, Gregorio,” he wrote without elaborating.
The musician also reported that his father “is physically fine,” while José Hernández, known as “Pepe Timbal,” and one of the dancers are “delicate” and being cared for.
What was the accident in which the member of the Super Class died?
This Wednesday night, Jorge Domínguez and his Super Class team appeared as part of the festivities for the Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe in the community of Guadalupe Sarabia, in the municipality of Tepeyahualco, Puebla.
According to the N+ report, at one point youths were burning a “torito” (firework structure) when a flare hit the warehouse where fireworks were kept, causing an explosion.
The warehouse was destroyed and the shock wave of the explosion reached several people who were gathered enjoying the event.
In an immediate statement, the state government revealed that the incident “has left a balance, so far, of three dead and 25 injured, of which 23 have been taken to nearby hospitals.”
The portal Infobae emphasizes that, according to a video in which the accident was recorded, apparently the group was on stage and performed their songs at the exact moment when the explosion occurred.
