Shakira She shared her happiness because in her hometown of Barranquilla, a statue was unveiled in her honor on the morning of December 26, an event she did not attend, but her parents were present after experiencing serious health problems.
The Colombian celebrated twice, not only to recognize her birthplace, but also because this day is her mother’s birthday. Mrs. Nidia Ripoll turned 74 and was proud to see that her daughter was immortalized.
“Thank you to the sculptor Yino Márquez and the students of the provincial art school for this example of the enormous artistic talent of the people of my country,” the “Monotonía” interpreter posted on the social network X, formerly Twitter.
While on Instagram she wrote: “It makes me happy to share this with my parents and especially my mother on her birthday.”
In the photos published by the Colombian you can see Don William Mebarak and his wife, Nidia Ripoll, posing next to the huge statue of Shakira, it seems that both of them are looking good, despite the fact that a few months ago both he was in bad health..
William Mebarak underwent surgery last June with a “Hakim valve” on his head to remove excess cerebrospinal fluid and treat the normal pressure hydrocephalus he has suffered since 2022 after falling in Barcelona.
For her part, the singer’s mother was hospitalized last October due to a blood clot in one of her legs, El Tiempo reported.
This year on December 26, both looked radiant and excited at the tribute to their famous daughter.
Details of the Shakira statue
Sculptor Yino Márquez is the one who immortalized the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer in a bronze and aluminum statue, 6.4 meters high and weighing 6 tons.
In an interview with Red+, the plastic artist explained that he needed the help of 30 workers for the whole process which took five months. First the Shakira statue was cast in clay to make a silicone mold and then made of fiberglass to finally cast the bronze.
The statue of the Colombian is in a belly dancing pose, with hip movements that have become a signature of the ‘Shak’. However, Yino Márquez confessed that it was not easy to achieve the position.
“The dress, which transforms into waves, is made of aluminum to give more strength to the symbology I want to express. It is the river and the sea, why Shakira is river and sea, just like Barranquilla“, he explained to Red+.
The project is located on the Malecón del Río, which will help turn the area into a tourist spot, explained Jaime Pumarejo, mayor of Barranquilla.
