Carl Weathers, who became famous playing Apollo, Sylveste Stallon’s nemesis in the ‘Rocky’ saga.died on February 1 at the age of 76, his family confirmed in a statement.
According to the message, the actor of the series “The Mandalorian” died “peacefully”: “It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Carl Weathers. He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday 1 February 2024.”
“Carl was an extraordinary man who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner and friend,” the message reads.
So far it is unknown if the actor was suffering from any illness.
Who was Carl Weathers?
He grew up in New Orleans, where he began acting in elementary school plays. During high school he began his athletic career in track and later in college he focused on American football and was selected to join the Oakland Raiders in 1970, but played only one season as a linebacker.
However, his passion for acting made him return to his path and he left a great legacy in almost 50 years of career in film and television.
He participated in the first four installments of the “Rocky” saga with Sylvester Stallone. In 1987 he shot “Predator” alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger. A year later he was part of the cast of ‘Action Jackson’.
In addition to many action films, in 1996 he was involved in the comedy “Happy Gilmore” with Adam Sandler.
‘The Defiant Ones’, ‘Braker’, ‘Death Hunt’, ‘Hurricane Smith’ are other films in which he participated.
Series and TV shows are also part of his legacy, such as “Fortune Dane”, “Tour of Duty”, “Street Justice”, “In the Heat of the Night”, “Brothers”, “The Shield”, “Arrested Development ” , “Chicago Justice” and Disney’s “The Mandalorian”, which was one of his last projects.
Carl was also a voice actor, voicing Combat Carl in the ‘Toy Story’ franchise.
The actor is survived by his two children.
