Actress Marcela Daviland, who left her mark on the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema, has died at the age of 98, Mexico’s National Association of Interpreters (ANDA) has confirmed.
“The National Screen Actors Guild is saddened by the passing of our colleague Marcela Daviland. Our condolences to family, friends and colleagues. RIP,” she said on social media without elaborating.
The actress was one of the stars who worked alongside the legendary Pedro Infante in the film ‘Pablo y Carolina’ in 1957.
Who Was Marcela Daviland?
Although he was born in Italy, he developed most of his career in Mexico. He worked on Italian productions such as ‘Il paese dei campanelli’ and ‘Trieste cantico d’amore’ in 1954.
In 1955 he moved to Mexico and made his debut in “La sultana Safuyé”. This was followed by the film “New Faces” (1956), directed by Mauricio de la Serna. The following year he participated in “Pablo y Carolina”, although in a supporting role, since the film starred Irasema Dilián and Pedro Infante.
“The Ugly Mexican” and “And the Models” are other films in which he participated.
During his career he shot 30 films covering gold cinema films and ficheras.
He also ventured into Mexican soap operas in stories such as “Lucía Sombra” (1971), “Amor en Silencio” (1988) and the first version of “La Madrastra” (1962).
The actress married fellow actor Raul Ramirez, who was president of the National Association of Interpreters (ANDI), with whom she had a son, Raul Marcelo Ramirez.
