Yudi Tamashiro reveals he was almost arrested in Japan: ‘something out of a movie’

In an interview the artist spoke about his experience drifting in Tokyo

Yudi Tamashiro is from Santos, but lived in Japan until the age of 5, when he had his first contact with Japanese culture. In an interview broadcast last Wednesday (21) on Podcast Conexões, by journalist Glória Vanique, the famous “Playstation boy” recalled one of his adventures in the “dark side of the country”, when he was almost arrested while drifting.

Drifting is a style of racing in which the intention is to skid with the rear of the vehicle to one side and the front wheels in the opposite direction of the turn. “A friend had a drift team and, at that time, the movie ‘Fast and the Furious’ was big in Tokyo, so I asked him if it was real and he said yes, and he took me to see it. I always I thought it looked like something out of a movie!” explains Yudi.

“We arrived at a place that had several other equipped cars and my friend put me in one of them. It had a very narrow road, only cars could pass. Not even one person from the side could fit in. The boys had I waited for the traffic lights to open and I drove the car sideways on this street. I was in the car and I thought ‘It won’t happen, it won’t happen'”, Yudi recalls. “When I turned across the street, the police were waiting for everyone. I got out of the car, the police car came up and everyone started running. I got in the car and we drove away! I thought ‘Oh my God , what is going on?” is happening? They will arrest me in Japan. Today I imagine an article comes out in Brazil ‘Menino do Bom Dia and Cia arrested in Japan'”, he joked.

Yudi Tamashiro and religion

Nowadays, adventures in Japan have given way to another style of travel. At 31 years old, married and Christian, Yudi now returns to the country to evangelize the people. The artist joins the community of Brazilians in the country to hold services and prayers. “I’ve been in Japan my whole life, it’s always been a refuge for me to have more freedom away from the spotlight of fame. I’ve made a lot of friends and experienced a lot of things there! But it’s amazing how today, coming back to being the most older, more mature, next to my wife, my goals and my pleasures are different and now one of my goals is to evangelize that nation”, concludes the artist.
