He reached the peak of fame between his 80’s and 90’s. He studied art history and became a legend in the fashion world. Additionally, as an accomplished interior designer, she helped renovate the White House for nine presidents, from Harry Truman to Bill Clinton.
His eccentric style was his signature. With her cropped white hair, huge glasses and bright lipstick, she became a fixture on the front rows of Paris fashion shows for more than half a century.
Iris filled two floors of her Park Avenue apartment with works by the great designers of the 20th century, collected over several decades of her life. In 2005, New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art organized the first major retrospective of her wardrobe, where she admitted that she was prone to buying interesting jewelry at both a Harlem thrift store and Tiffany’s.
In 2014, the designer was the subject of a documentary called “Iris”, directed by Albert Maysles. In addition, he was an Instagram star with 3 million followers.
