Xuxa cries remembering the last call to Ayrton Senna: “It stays in your head”


The two dated between 1988 and 1990, but maintained contact and feelings even after the end of the relationship.

Xuxa he got emotional when talking about his relationship with Ayrton SennaFormula 1 driver killed in a race in 1994. The presenter recalled the last call she made to her ex-boyfriend, the day before his death, during an interview for the documentary series Sullivan and Masadas: portraits and songsavailable on Globalplay.

In the documentary the presenter spoke to Michael Sullivan, who reminded her of some details from the night before the race. “Last night you called Senna. He was sleeping and woke up to answer you. Xuxa said: ‘Why are you going to this race? There’s no need,'” she said.

Ayrton Senna died the next day, May 1, 1994, after crashing his car into a concrete barrier at the San Marino Grand Prix, Italy.

Crying, Xuxa completed her friend’s speech. “On Saturday I said I would follow him on Monday. On Sunday he died. That still sticks in my head. That day we recorded until three in the morning and I was woken up at race time with several people calling me saying that Senna had had the accident.”

The star also explained that he had an intense recording routine during race week. “We recorded all week […] Marlene Mattos also said, “Xuxa wants to pursue him so they can get married,” she said, explaining why she would want to pursue the pilot.
