The date has finally arrived for the 96th edition of the Academy Awards taking place this Sunday, March 10 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
The celebration began with the parade of stars and celebrities on the red carpet, where there was a riot of style, opulence and glitz.

The stars arrived in the lobby dressed in their finest for a night in which Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer emerged as the favourite, with 13 nominations.
The film was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (Cillian Murphy), Best Supporting Actor (Robert Downey Jr.) and Best Supporting Actress (Emily Blunt).
“Poor Things” by Greek director Giorgos Lanthimos came with 11 nominations and “Killers of the Flower Moon” by Martin Scorsese with 10.
Both films earned their leading actresses, Emma Stone and Lily Gladstone, nominations for Best Actress.
A laughter gala was also planned with Jimmy Kimmel as the evening’s host.
In this edition, the Spanish-speaking presence has also stood out with Eva Longoria and the Spanish Juan Antonio Bayona, who managed to get his film “The Snow Society” nominated for Best Foreign Film.
The story about the tragedy of the Andes ended up facing tough competitors such as “The Zone of Interest”, by Britain’s Jonathan Glazer or “Perfect Days”, by Germany’s Wim Wenders (competing for Japan).
Mexico’s Rodrigo Prieto was nominated for best picture for “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
Meanwhile, Spain’s Pablo Berger in animation for “Robot Dreams” and David Martí, Montse Ribé and Ana López-Puigcerver in makeup and hair for “The Snow Society” round out the Spanish-language selections at the gala.
This year’s gala was framed by multiple events. According to the AP agency, there were expected to be protests about the war between Israel and Hamas near the Dolby Theater.
The police increased their already extensive presence. The war in Ukraine will be on the minds of some attendees, especially the journalists behind the documentary “20 Days in Mariupol.”
And with the US presidential election in full swing, politics was expected to be an inevitable topic, despite an awards season that has largely unfolded away from such topics.
