‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ director to direct Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reality show

It looks like the rumors that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will let cameras into their house have been confirmed. According to Page Six, which rarely makes mistakes with insiders, the production of a documentary series about the Sussexes under the working title “At Home with the Duke and Duchess” will be directed by American director Liz Garbus.

Garbus is best known for her work on the fourth season of the hit series The Handmaid’s Tale, for which she was nominated for an Emmy in 2021. She has also directed a number of documentaries about pop stars, such as the acclaimed Britney vs. Spears and Ariana Grande: Excuse Me, I Love You. Garbus was also set to tackle Meghan Markle and David Furnish’s animated film The Pearl, which Netflix pulled out of production earlier this year.

The Sussexes would film a reality show about their lives as part of a $100 million deal with streaming giant Netflix, it was revealed at the end of May. Then this was also reported to Page Six. The series will presumably be released alongside Prince Harry’s long-awaited memoir. The Sussex Archewell Public Foundation has not confirmed this information, but eyewitnesses are sure that the couple has already hired a film crew – last September they were accompanied by their own operators at the Global Citizen Live event.

The news of the new show’s launch comes amid growing concerns about the upcoming release of Prince Harry’s memoir. In the book, the Duke is expected to reveal provocative details of his relationship with the royal family. Harry has been known to have been collaborating with Pulitzer Prize-winning ghostwriter John Joseph Mehringer Jr. for a year now, helping Harry with the writing. Rumor has it that Her Majesty, Prince Charles and Prince William are shocked by the Duke’s intentions to turn his life inside out, and royal experts warn that a potentially scandalous memoir could burn all the bridges between Prince Harry and Buckingham Palace.

Note that last Saturday, the Duke and Duchess were seen at the entrance to Oprah Winfrey’s estate, a five-minute drive from their residence in Montecito. The visit sparked speculation that the couple was about to give the TV presenter a controversial interview again. In 2021, their conversation with Oprah caused a wide resonance and discontent in the royal family – Meghan and Harry made a number of shocking statements, including about everyday racism among British monarchs.
