American tabloids report that a New York court has sentenced 55-year-old rapper R. Kelly – real name Robert Sylvester Kelly – to 30 years in prison on charges of trafficking in women for the purpose of sexual exploitation, as well as violence against minors. Despite the fact that the singer’s lawyers insisted on only 10 years, the court was adamant. Note that, given the age of the star, its term can be safely equated to life. The rapper was not helped even by his own tragic childhood, which he spoke about during the proceedings – according to R. Kelly’s legal team, he was repeatedly sexually abused by a family member.

In September 2021, R. Kelly was charged with sexual offenses spanning more than two decades. During the jury trial, 11 accusers, including 9 women and two men, described in detail how they were lured and kidnapped for the musician, after which they were sexually abused by him. It also turned out that R. Kelly illegally smuggled women across the border and sold them for the purpose of sexual exploitation. After two days of discussions, the rapper was found guilty on 9 of the 13 counts.
Recall that R. Kelly is a three-time Grammy Award winner, a veteran of rap and rhythm and blues. During his career, he released 14 studio albums, dozens of singles and the main hit of the late 1990s “I Believe I Can Fly”.
