“From the first moment, we have maintained constant contact with the family of the student who was the victim of this racist attack, as well as remaining vigilant so that she does not expose herself too much and become a victim of further attacks. In the circular sent to all families on the same day, we asked that everyone talk to their children about what happened, and on Tuesday, April 23, two 9th grade students and their families attended school, taking responsibility for their actions,” the email explains.

The students were suspended indefinitely and banned from participating in a school trip. “We underline that other punitive measures may be adopted, if we deem it necessary after our intense educational debate, also in consideration of the unequivocal fight against racism”, said the coordinator.

In the text sent to the group of parents, Samara states that she has asked for the expulsion of the students responsible and claims that the school is acting negligently in the face of repeated incidents of prejudice.

“This is not an isolated case, let’s be clear!!! Hostile and exclusionary acts have become increasingly violent and recurrent. (She) she just wanted to be part of a group and was excluded from work, from groups, from trips, she accepted every crumb and the taunts made by the same girls, and her name was always thrown around, “she told me she said” and blamed for acts he did not commit,” the actress said in the parents’ group.

The school explains that, “after extensive and intense investigative activity, it was possible to promote a meeting between the three students involved, with the mediation of the school” and, subsequently, “the attackers were informed of the sanctions initially defined, including an indefinite suspension.”

When asked how it plans to prevent new incidents of this nature from occurring, the institution said it will do so through “direct confrontation and educational actions, such as expanding racial literacy throughout the community.” He stressed that the school’s commitment to fighting racism, “unfortunately, does not prevent unjustifiable attacks from continuing to occur.”

The school also specified that, since 2019, it has been developing a project for ethnic-racial relations, “with actions in the school environment to combat structural racism: revision of the school curriculum, continuous training, expansion of racial diversity among students, teachers and executives, among others.”
