Basketball player Juancho Hernángomez, who starred in the movie “Pitching High” with actor Adam Sandler on Netflix, has been fired from his team. The Utah Jazz announced a reshuffle on its roster and ended up releasing the athlete.
According to the newspaper AS, the main reason for the cut was Hernangómez’s high salary. The athlete was paid $ 7 million a season and the decision had to be made before the weekend, otherwise the team would have been forced to pay the player’s salary.
In the film, Sandler plays a “scout” who discovers the talent of a foreign basketball player (Hernangómez) and convinces him to come to the United States to try and succeed in the NBA. However, nothing goes as expected, leaving the Spanish athlete torn apart by having left his young daughter to bet on an increasingly impossible dream.
Despite the backlash from his role in the film, which raised expectations for his performance in next season’s NBA games, he is now without a team and no prospect of playing in the world’s most popular basketball league.
