Actor James Caan, who played Sonny Corleone in The Godfather, has died. He was 82 years old. The death of Kaan was announced by his relatives on the actor’s official blog on social networks. According to them, he died on July 6, but the reason was not specified.
It is with great sadness that we inform you of Jimmy’s passing on the evening of July 6th. Our entire family appreciates all of our sincere condolences and asks that our privacy be respected during this difficult time,” the post reads.


The actor was born in March 1940 in the Bronx. For a while, James studied at Hofstra University on the same course as director Francis Ford Coppola and actress Lainie Kazan. He began his career in the 60s, playing in New York theaters, and then began acting in television and films.
Kaan’s filmography includes more than 120 films, including Francis Ford Coppola’s Rain People, Rob Reiner’s Misery and Howard Hawks’ Eldorado. His most famous roles are Sonny Corleone in two parts of The Godfather, as well as paintings like The Gambler, Rollerball, Misery and Dogville.
The actor was nominated for an Oscar, as well as an Emmy and several times for the Golden Globe, and in 1978 he was awarded his own star on the Walk of Fame.
