The couple revealed they had suffered “unfair criticism” during the trial
Singer Aline Wirley and her husband Igor Rickli have revealed that they faced prejudice and were questioned about their sexuality during the adoption process of their children Will and Fátima, aged seven and ten respectively.
Igor, an openly bisexual, explained that they faced hostility during the adoption hearing. “We were questioned about our sexuality and faced unfair criticism. We are just seeking the right to love and raise our children in peace and affection,” he said in an interview with CNN Brazil.
Aline was moved when she spoke about the adoption, expressing the joy and gratitude she feels for her children. “Will and Fátima have brought immense happiness into our lives. They have always been ours, only that until then they were not with us,” she said.
“I come from a family where no women married. I was forced into the loneliness of a black woman. We experience deep love and this is a healing space for me, my daughter and my ancestors,” the former Rouge member added.
Rickli also highlighted the challenges the couple has faced over time. “It was painful at first. 14 years ago, the world was different. We faced a lot of ignorance, including about our sexuality and the fact that we are an interracial couple.”
