In an interview with “Fantástico”, the presenter explained in detail the surgery for aortic aneurysm and warned about the importance of prevention
A few hours after being discharged from the Sírio Libanês hospital in São Paulo, Otaviano Costa and Flávia Alessandra received the Fantastic in the house where they live, in Rio de Janeiro, to talk about the surgery the presenter underwent to treat an aortic aneurysm.

“[A cirurgia] It saved my life and the lives of many people. Take care of yourself,” she said.
“In a simple electrocardiogram, the advancement of something that was putting my life at risk was detected. I had an ascending thoracic aortic aneurysm at a very dangerous level. An aneurysm is a swelling of the vein. At any moment, I could have ruptured my aorta and therefore it will be irreversible,” he told the journalist. The interview will be broadcast on Sunday 28.
Remember the case
On Monday 22nd Otaviano Costa provided details of the surgery, explaining that the disease is at a “dangerous” level and could cause irreversible damage or even be fatal if the surgery is not performed.
“About 30 days ago my life changed. I was in excellent health, I had no symptoms, but I had a little pain that bothered me…[apontando para a costa esquerda]. Unable to escape to São Paulo to undergo my routine check-up, more or less two years ago, and understand the evolution of my physical and health conditions, I decided to consult a doctor I did not know, the cardiologist Dr. Antônio Masetto, on Thursday, June 6, before Flavinha’s birthday”, says Costa.
He explained what an aortic aneurysm is. “It’s the swelling of the vein and, in my case, it was caused by a valve, called a bicuspid… It’s a tricuspid valve, but I was born with a bicuspid valve, which is to say, the normal thing was to have three small valves, mine had two rods, premolars, so I was pouring a lot of blood into the aorta and lately it has swollen putting my life at risk, with any effort I make, day by day. Even dragging a heavy suitcase, doing a bench press or playing football with a heart beating fast would be fatal,” he said.
“We decided to pursue surgery as a definitive solution to this risk, which it would not be fair for me to take anymore. And it would not be fair for my girls, my family and my friends, to live such a high-risk life, knowing this information,” the presenter said.
