Actor Who Asked For Job And Followers Gets Work With Stars

Stepan Nercessian is committed to maintaining the retreat where artists in vulnerable situations are welcomed

At the end of June, Stepan Nercessian made a humorous appeal on a social network. “I need to increase the number of followers, because there will be an opportunity to make a soap opera and a movie. If I don’t have a following, I won’t be hired.”

At the time, he had 108,000 followers on Instagram. The tactic worked: today his profile has 211 followers, an increase of almost 100%. And a new job has emerged. Not on TV or in the cinema, but on streaming.

Her name appears in the casting announcement for the upcoming HBO original series in Brazil, based on the podcast “Praia dos Ossos,” about the life and tragic death of socialite Ângela Diniz. The crime became one of the most famous femicides in Brazilian police history.

No details have been released about Stepan’s role. It is known that he will be alongside Marjorie Estiano, Emílio Dantas, Antônio Fagundes and other actors who have moved from television to digital after their contracts with Globo ended.

When he jokingly asks for followers to be more relevant on the Internet, he points out a cruel reality: popularity on social media has become a criterion for some casting producers. Those who don’t get high engagement numbers have a lower chance of landing a star role.

The veteran has not been away from television for long. In the last five years he has been seen in ‘Éramos Seis’, ‘Chacrinha – A Minisérie’, ‘Sob Pressão’, ‘Quanto Mais Vida, Melhor’ and ‘Cine Holliúdy’.

Over the course of a fifty-year career, he participated in historical works such as “O Astro”, “Feijão Maravilha”, “Selva de Pedra”, “Vale Tudo”, “Mulheres de Areia” and “Terra Nostra”.

In parallel to his work, Stepan Nercessian runs the Artists’ Retreat in Rio, supported by donations, the organization provides accommodation and multidisciplinary care to frail or helpless seniors who have worked in the field of art.
