Juliana Paes has experienced the same traumatic situation as her character Liana, from ‘Pedaço de Mim’. The actress said in a recent interview that she tried to ‘erase’ the sexual abuse from her mind.

In conversation with Maria Fortuna, the artist who has a family relationship with Umbanda revealed having been raped in her youth. The artist, who played Liana in the melodrama ‘Piece of Me’She also said she ended up reliving the trauma while filming for the Netflix production, as the character also suffers sexual abuse.

“Every woman has experienced, to a greater or lesser extent, a situation of violence. I experienced episodes like this as a teenager and I remember the feeling of wanting to disappear immediately after it happened. I have never spoken about it like this and today I feel more at ease, I remember that afterwards I wanted to erase myself, to cancel myself”, she expressed.

Paes went on to point out that, in most cases, the perpetrator is someone who is close to the family and seems trustworthy: “Until you realize that trust has been broken and you remove the blame… ‘Wait, what part of this is I responsible for?’ It took me years. Our memory process works to protect us.”

“We paint the memory with other colors to protect ourselves from the pain of having to deal with it. You try to stifle it inside yourself. For me it was a little boring. But it was, yes, it was bad, it was a situation of sexual abuse,” she added.
