Through X, SM Entertainment released an official statement regarding the singer’s departure and it attracted more than 45.7 million views in less than three hours.
“We recognize the seriousness of the matter and have decided that Taeil will no longer be able to continue the team’s activities,” the label said. “We discussed the matter with Taeil and it has been decided that he will leave the group,” it added, saying it will cooperate fully with the police investigation.

Taeil was a member of NCT, or Neo Culture Technology, a globally popular South Korean boy band that debuted in 2016. The group currently has more than two dozen members divided into several subunits, including NCT 127, NCT Dream, and NCT Wish.
Taeil has recently been active in NCT 127. Known for experimental music that spans multiple genres, the group has gained international attention with a few Billboard chart releases.
