Michaela Mabinty DePrince, an accomplished ballet dancer, has died at the age of 29. The news was confirmed by his family and work team through a statement on their social networks on September 13.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the loss of star dancer Michaela Mabinty DePrince, whose art touched countless hearts and whose spirit inspired so many, leaving an indelible mark on the world of ballet and beyond,” the statement begins.
“Although her time with us was all too short, her brilliance and legacy will continue to shine in the hearts of all who were touched by her story for generations to come. Love and prayers to her family, friends and those who loved her. ” It is part of what his working group wrote.
So far the cause of his death has not been revealed.
Who Was Michaela DePrince?
The athlete, born in Sierra Leone, was adopted by an American family after losing her parents in the civil war in her homeland.
He has performed with well-known labels and participated in high-profile projects such as Beyoncé’s ‘Lemonade’ visual album.
“Michaela made history as the youngest principal dancer at the Dance Theater of Harlem, before moving to the Netherlands to dance with the Dutch National Ballet. Her career progressed to Boston Ballet upon her return to the United States, where she continued to captivate the audience with his performances,” explains the statement about his career.
“Through her memoir, Taking Flight: From War Orphan to Star Ballerina, DePrince shared her inspiring journey of resilience and triumph, which has been translated into multiple languages and published in a dozen countries. Her next book, Ballet Dreams, further strengthened its impact, extending its influence far beyond the stage.”
“DePrince was also a dedicated humanitarian advocating for children affected by conflict and violence. She served as an ambassador for War Child Holland and organized the Dare to Dream gala, dedicated to promoting the well-being and mental health of children living in conflict. zones,” the message says.
