Karime Borja fought to the end to help her son after an accident left him with brain damage

In November 2021, the presenter’s son had a domestic accident when he fell into a pool, where he remained for several minutes without vital signs.

“Mateo suffocated and was immediately taken to the hospital. He was without vital signs for 15 minutes.” He told the newspaper El Universo in 2022.

Although emergency services tried to revive him, the prolonged time spent without oxygen caused severe brain damage. Ischemic hypoxia due to immersion.

“I didn’t want to talk to doctors, I wanted to talk to God. His heart had started beating on its own again, Mateo was alive. Thank God I was alive, at that moment I was reborn,” he emphasized on his “Face to Face with My Worst Nightmare” podcast that same year.

Since that fatal accident, Karime Borja fought by her son’s side against the consequences of the incident. His son had been living at home since 2022 and received treatment daily.

The 4-year-old boy had several health crises, requiring hospitalization on several occasions. During one of those hospital visits, Karime wrote on Instagram: “Don’t ask me what happened or trust me, nothing is happening. Just give me your company and your love, thank you”.

Via Instagram, the former beauty queen documented her little one’s every treatment, his health crises and his progress.
