Xuxa Meneghel escaped a kidnapping attempt in August 1991, a year before ending “Xou da Xuxa” (1986-1992), her first program on Globo. At the time, the fright of the queen of the little ones made people think about the possibility of her leaving Brazil. It is worth remembering that in the 80s and 90s the kidnappings in the country were increasing: the businessman Abílio Diniz (1936-2024) and Silvio Santos’s sister (1930-2024) were some of the victims. Xuxa recorded a whole day at the Teatro Fênix, in the Jardim Botânico, and left the Globo only at the end of the evening.

On August 6, the artist returned home only at midnight and the attempted kidnapping occurred the next morning, another day of recording. According to “Jornal do Brasil”, the presenter’s security would have been strengthened and Marlene Mattos, businesswoman and then director of Xuxa, showed concern for people she considered suspicious and who were very close to Globo.
