Leo Esteves made the singer more accessible to the general public and, as much as possible, comforts the heart of the king of music
Since March 2023 Leo Esteves has been Roberto Carlos’ manager. In these 19 months the career of the greatest Brazilian artist has gained new momentum.
He performed in cities where he had not performed for decades and sang in larger venues, gathering large numbers of spectators.
Because of his fame and fortune, the idol could live in isolation, without working, but he chose to travel around the country and abroad to connect with his millions of fans.
“The new management of Roberto Carlos revives the old maxim, attributed to Milton Nascimento, that the artist must be where the people are, adapting this philosophy to the realities of his age and career, ensuring that his presentations meet the public expectations. public while preserving their well-being”, explains the profile ‘O Rei Roberto Carlos from fan to fan’ on Facebook.
In fact, in ‘Nos Bailes da Vida’, the brilliant Bituca sings: “Every artist must go where the people are / If it were like this, it will be like this / Singing I get tired and I don’t get tired / Of living or singing”.
At 83, the king of romance appears reinvigorated in his new phase, with a busy schedule. Leo Esteves managed to achieve what seemed impossible: make it even more popular.
In an interview with ‘Veja’, Roberto Carlos’ former coach, Dody Sirena, criticized his successor’s strategy. “If I were his manager today, I wouldn’t do what he’s doing. It’s a spectacle at every turn,” he said.
The singer’s constant presence on the road could have a much deeper reason. “He himself states that, when he is on stage, he feels free from problems; the place where painful memories are silenced by the applause that calms you and the smiles that decorate your life with joy and colours”, says the admirers’ page cited above.
In the song ‘Eu Offereço Flores’, which gives its name to the current tour, several songs confirm this theory according to which the shows are a therapy for the singer shaken by the loss of numerous loved ones.
“Looks and smiles / Give me what I need / I feel in these moments / In my heart and soul / The applause that calms me / Relief from suffering,” he sings.
“And looking at you / I see these smiles / That decorate my life / With joy and colors / With all my heart / For all this, then / I offer flowers”.
Youngest son of the late Erasmo Carlos, Leo Esteves did an excellent job in revitalizing his father’s career: he adapted the repertoire, made the release of a film and a biography possible and created the conditions for ‘Tremendão’ could satisfy his desire to continue performing even when he was weakened.
Now he transfers all his affection and attention to Roberto Carlos, who treats him like a child of his heart. Leo probably eases the pain of the absence of Dudu Braga, the singer’s youngest son, who accompanied him whenever he could and took care of his work. He died at the age of 52, in September 2021, of cancer.
One child has never replaced another, however, having someone loving and reliable by his side is all Roberto Carlos needs to renew his strength to move forward, even after being shaken by so many deaths in recent years. Audiences around the world are grateful.
