After the murder of the director Víctor Muro Velázquez, who worked on the film “Roma” under the orders of Alfonso Cuarón, details, such as who was responsible and his motive, came to light.
On October 9, the 60-year-old lighting engineer was reported killed in the city of Xalapa, Veracruz.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, the artist was dismembered. Parts of his body were found in bags and others in a drum.
Cuitláhuac García Jiménez, the entity’s governor, said that “his investigation points to a work colleague” of Victor’s as the main suspect in the crime, and that he is being held.
Muro and his alleged killer arrived in the capital from Mexico City to shoot a short film, according to prosecutor Verónica Hernández Giadáns.
Details of the assassination of Víctor Muro Velázquez
On October 10, the newspaper Imagen del Golfo reported, citing “information gathered by the authorities,” the details of Víctor Muro Velázquez’s murder.
The media clarified that the events took place last Sunday the 6th, around 8 pm, inside a residence in the city center.
Apparently, the engineer was at the home of his friend and partner in Rayos Cine SA de CV, Carlos Armando ‘N’.
At the scene, after consuming alcohol, both allegedly got into a violent fight over matters related to their company.
In the midst of the physical altercation, Carlos allegedly overpowered Victor and struck him repeatedly in the head and face with a blunt object.
The alleged attack resulted in a head injury that killed Muro instantly.
Given what happened, Carlos Armando, possibly in an attempt to get rid of the body, dragged it to the laundry room, where he cut it up with a jigsaw.
It is assumed that the photographer got rid of the remains in the early hours of Monday the 7th when he moved them to an uninhabited house.
Alfonso Cuarón reacts to the murder of Victor Muro
Within hours of what happened, Alfonso Cuarón reacted via a message on X (formerly Twitter).
“I accept with sadness and disappointment the news of the horrible murder of Victor Muro Velazquez,” he wrote on Thursday the 10th.
“I express my deepest condolences to his family,” expressed the director of films such as “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” or “Gravity.”
In this regard, screenwriter Julio Ramos announced in a Facebook post that Cuarón intends to help Muro’s loved ones.
“Both Alfonso and Nicolás Celis are aware of the situation in Xalapa and I am in direct line with them to be able to financially support Víctor’s family after this accident,” he explained.
“Just as it is unreal for me, and for all of you, for ‘Nico’ and Alfonso to understand where so much violence comes from and against a beloved partner,” he added.
Previously, photographer Alex Wolff Rebolledo shared that Muro’s relatives need contributions “for funeral expenses” and legal proceedings, so they are asking for donations.
