One of the most successful films of Mexican cinema in 1992 was “Like water for chocolate”, where Regina Torne she played ‘Mama Elena’, the demanding matriarch who not only manipulated her daughters but, from the birth of ‘Tita’, dictated that she be the one left alone to care for her.

The film was so successful that it gave Regina Torné international recognition, leading her to star in soap operas such as “Agujetas de color de rosa”, “Retrato de familia”, “La chacala”, “Amor en custodia” and “La loba”, where she had a masterful participation as a villain.

However, when the actress from Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico was at the height of her success, His career was overshadowed by the horrific crime committed by his only daughter, the same for which he was sentenced to 35 years in prison.

As a result of her marriage to Carlos Campos, Regina Torné became the mother of her only daughter, Regina del Pilar. who, in complicity with Edgar Rogelio Eslava Sánchez, was responsible for the crime of kidnapping and reckless homicide of Maribel Monroy, his wife.

According to Mexican authorities, in January 2006, Regina del Pilar and Édgar Rogelio Eslava hired three men to kidnap Maribel Monroy. During the kidnapping, the woman died of suffocation and the men threw his body into a ditch, which they later set on fire.

Her daughter Regina Tornay was sentenced to 35 years in prison for the crime of murder, while her accomplice was sentenced to 26 years in prison.

Regina Torné never justified her daughter’s actions, but he continued to support her until 2014, a year in which a distance between them was reported.

In the same year, the leading actress announced her retirement from the stage and moved to live in Puebla, where she opened a performing arts academy, so little is known about her since then.

“I’ve made friends like family here and as I said one day: Tabasco saw me born, but Puebla will see me die“, he declared in 2020 in “El sol de Puebla”.
