The casting of the ‘Vale Tudo’ remake raised a question: Who will play Lucimar? The secondary character gained prominence in the 1988 soap opera thanks to the talent of her portrayer, Maria Gladys.

A day laborer, she clashed with the evil Maria de Fátima (Gloria Pires). She did not accept disrespectful treatment, complained about the lazy boss and defended the rights of domestic workers. All with a generous dose of humor.

It was the most popular role for Gladys, an artist born in the suburbs of Rio. A solo mother at the age of 15, shortly after she met young singers looking for success: Tim Maia, Erasmo Carlos and Roberto Carlos.

She became the first serious girlfriend of the future “king” of romantic music. “I fell in love with him. It was so beautiful,” he told the newspaper ‘Extra’. At the same time, she became interested in theater and found work as a dancer in the program “Clube do Rock”, on TV Tupi.

Today, approaching her 85th birthday (her birthday is November 23), the television veteran is making headlines for advocating for the legalization of marijuana use. “I’m a stoner, I’m a hippie, I think prohibition is hypocritical. It doesn’t hurt anyone. I smoke every day. I smoke on the street, in protest. I belong to a generation that protested against the dictatorship. I’m used to it,” he said in an interview with ‘O Globo’.

In an article for Record, Maria Gladys expressed her desire to meet Roberto Carlos again. He also invited the singer. “Hey, let’s go out! I want to go to Urca, have lunch and drink whisky. Roberto, don’t forget me, no.”
