The actors celebrated the sentence in a post published on social media

The information was released by CNN and confirmed by the actors through a publication on their social networks, which celebrated the legal victory.

The Almada court sentenced Adélia to serve an eight-month prison sentence, on the condition that he does not commit another crime within the next four years. Furthermore, she was sentenced to pay compensation of 14 thousand euros (around 85 thousand reals) to the victims, as well as 2,500 euros (around 15 thousand reals) to the SOS Racismo association. The convict will also have to undergo treatment for alcoholism.
The crime took place in the Clássico Beach Club restaurant, located in Costa da Caparica, where the family was on holiday. At that moment, the white woman, identified as Adélia Barros, passed by the scene and began to insult the children, as well as offending a family of Angolan tourists present, made up of about fifteen people.
Gagliasso called the police and the woman was removed from the scene under guard. At the time, the couple filed a complaint against Adélia at a police station in Portugal, which began the legal proceedings.
In a post shared on social media, Giovanna Ewbank and Bruno Gagliasso celebrated the court’s decision. “Almost three months ago we celebrated a victory against racism in Brazil. And today, directly from Salvador, in this month that asks us to be aware of the heritage of slavery we have inherited, we return to publicize yet another victory against racism. racism, this time in Portugal,” the actors wrote.
They also recognized the privilege they have as white people and the responsibility to use that privilege to amplify the voices of people of color. “We know that this victory happens because we have visibility and because we are white. We know that we are listened to more than any black mother or father who is still silenced. We know it. And we cannot stop, especially if our privilege makes a difference in a brawl. This is our role, this is the white man’s role.
Furthermore, the couple underlined the importance of justice in the case and thanked the Portuguese lawyers Rui Patrício and Catarina Mourão, who worked on the trial. “We have a lot of faith in Portuguese justice and we are also grateful to our Portuguese lawyers who always made us believe that justice would be done,” they wrote.
“STILL we are moved, STILL we are grateful for the public outcry, for the Brazilian press and for our Portuguese friends. AND STILL we must say that we must remain vigilant because racism CONTINUES, continues to decline, hurting, killing. And we cannot faint in front of him [sic]”, concluded the actors.
