Historic decision sentences a woman to eight months in prison and to pay compensation for racist insults against the couple’s children in a restaurant in Portugal.
This Friday (15th), Giovanna Ewbank AND Bruno Gagliasso they celebrated, through their social networks, the Portuguese court’s decision that condemned it Adelia Barros59 years old, for the crime of racism. The conviction refers to an episode that occurred on 30 July 2022, when the couple’s children, Titi AND Blessaged 9 and 7 respectively, they were victims of racist abuse in a restaurant in Costa da Caparica, Portugal.

According to the newspaper Público, Adélia Barros was sentenced to eight months in prisonsentence that will be served in freedom provided that the crime is not repeated within the next four years. Furthermore, the woman will have to pay compensation of 14 thousand euros (around 86.5 thousand reals) to her children and a fine of 2,500 euros (around 15 thousand reals) to the SOS Racismo association. The court also ordered the convicted woman to undergo treatment for alcoholism, a justification presented by her defense during the trial.
The pair of Brazilian actors, who took to Instagram, celebrated the decision, underlining its symbolism in the fight against racism. “Almost three months ago we celebrated a victory against racism in Brazil. And today, directly from Salvador, in this month that asks us to become aware of the legacy of slavery we have inherited, we return to publicize yet another victory against racism, this time in Portugal,” they wrote.
