Minerato’s case simply proves that celebrities have a lot to learn

The model and muse of Gaviões da Fiel had leaked audio with racist speeches against the singer

The astonishing audios of Ana Paula Minerato referring to singer Ananda, by Melanina Carioca, constantly remind us that no matter how much we fight against racism, there is still a lot to learn, especially among famous Brazilians. After all, in theory, they should serve as an example.

Ana Paula is famous for having participated in “A Fazenda”, but her popularity actually comes from being the muse of Gaviões da Fiel, a samba school closely linked to social movements and – perhaps it is necessary to state the obvious – with a large part of its members belonging to the black community. In other words: it is part of living with ethno-racial diversity.

However, he found it reasonable to make statements comparing Ananda to a maid, talking about her hair and her ancestry. The article will not reproduce the lyrics here so as not to revictimize the singer, but they are shocking. They are not friendly at all. They are explicit in a country where racism is considered a crime.

Pronounced behind the scenes, through the exchange of messages, the statements crudely expose what some people think, who still consider themselves superior for aesthetic or similar reasons. The horror. Famous – white – Brazilians do not have the minimum level of literacy. This type of behavior cannot be reproduced. And more: being a blonde woman in a samba school, she should be grateful to occupy a place that, by origin, should belong to the community.

Ana Paula remains silent. It is difficult to imagine a plausible excuse for such a mistake. May the episode teach you something and let others learn along with it.
