The Formula 1 driver’s ex-wife appears in the new Netflix series

This Friday (29th), Netflix released the six episodes of the miniseries “Senna”, which tells the story of former Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna. The subject of controversy due to the portrayals of Xuxa and Adriane Galisteu, the series begins by actually showing the Brazilian’s first and only wife, Lilian Vasconcellos.

In the Netflix series we see Lilian played by Alice Wegman, while Ayrton Senna plays Gabriel Leone.

How did Lilian and Ayrton Senna meet?

The couple met when they were young, in the north of São Paulo, in the Tremembé region. Months after they started dating, Ayrton Senna asked for the hand of his lover, who intended to go with him to England to encourage the driver’s dream. The two married in 1981.

The marriage, however, was short-lived, with the divorce signed in 1983. This is because, even with Lilian’s move to Europe, the two had different futures in mind. While his wife wanted to return to Brazil after a year, Ayrton Senna wanted to become a professional in motorsport and stay in Europe.

Where is Lilian Vasconcellos?

More than 40 years after her separation from Ayrton Senna, Lilian Vasconcellos lives a life away from the cameras. In 2010 he even criticized the former driver’s family for not being mentioned in the documentary on Ayrton.

“It bothered me. I say it bothered me a lot. At least they mentioned my name, they looked me up to see if I wanted them to mention my name,” he then told G1.
