Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have reached a divorce settlementwhich seemed to put an end to one of the longest and most contentious divorces in Hollywood history, although not all legal troubles between the two are over.
The divorce of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt
Jolie and Pitt signed a statement that was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court this Monday, December 30, stating that they have reached a written agreement regarding their marital and property rights. News of the deal was first reported by People magazine.
“More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. PittThe actress’ lawyer, James Simon, said in a statement.
“She and the children left all the property they had shared with Mr. Pitt and has since focused on finding peace and healing for her family. This is just one part of a long ongoing process that began eight years ago. Sincerely, Angelina is exhausted, but relieved that this part is over.”
The presentation indicates that waive the right to any financial spousal support future, but gives no further details.
A judge would have to approve the deal. An email sent late Monday night to Pitt’s attorney seeking comment was not immediately returned.
Jolie, 49, and Pitt, 61, were one of Hollywood’s most important couples for 12 years, two of them as a married couple. The performers, both Oscar winners, have six children together.
What remains pending?
The couple’s use of a private judge – an increasingly common move among celebrity divorces in recent years – has kept the proceedings largely under wraps.
There has been no formal court action in the case for nearly a year, and there was no indication that the two were nearing a settlement.
However, some details about their differences have been revealed through a separate suit filed by Pitt in which he alleged that Jolie breached an agreement in which she would sell him half of her French winery which they both owned together.
Jolie sold her stake in the Chateau Miraval winery.to the Tenute del Mondo wine group, in what Pete called a “vindictive” move that destroyed a private space that was a second home.
Jolie’s lawyers said Pitt had been required, as part of the settlement, to sign a broad non-disclosure agreement for him.
In court documents, he called it an attempted cover-up the alleged physical abuse against herwho said he targeted children on a private flight in 2016.
Along with federal and Los Angeles County officials, the original judge in the case heard testimony about the allegations before deciding to grant Pitt joint custody of the children.
The divorce settlement does not affect the winery’s lawsuitwhere the legal battle between the two stars could continue.
