Fasten your seat belts, fashionistas! Some of Hollywood’s hottest stars are competing for awards this year and it’s going to be an eventful season.
The Golden Globes started it all This Sunday, January 5th, the stars (and their stylists) staked out their territory at one of the most spectacular events in Hollywood.
The big one this year: lots of sparkle and shine. Here are some of the styles that caught your eye.
Ariana Grande: from pink to Hepburn yellow
He wasn’t wearing pink Glinda’s favorite color in “Wicked”but it evoked another Ozian color: yellow (from ‘Yellow Path’, of course) on high Givenchy couture.
The dress was soft silk with hand embroidery on the chest, a ‘vintage’ dress from what the designer calls ‘The Age of Audrey Hepburn’ at Givenchy. Accessorize with a Swarovski necklace.
Angelina Jolie: mom and daughter reconciled
Jolie was certainly part of the evening’s glamour, with a sparkling style Alexander McQueen dress of metallic colors woven into a branch-shaped pattern.
Daughter Zahara dressed to match her mother, with a similar print on her long white dress.
Cate Blanchett: resplendent in gold
Blanchett looked like a trophy statue come to life in a dazzling gold gown with a Louis Vuitton T-shirtwhich she also wore at the Cannes Film Festival.
Nicole Kidman: shines in silver
While Blanchett shone in gold, Kidman shone in silver, with a bold Balenciaga dress one shoulder and open back.
The ‘Babygirl’ star polished off the look with a sleek and voluminous half ponytail.
Zoë Kravitz: old school glamour
The director of “Don’t Blink Twice” chose the traditional with a Saint Laurent black velvet dress with a plunging neckline and a pastel silk bow around her waist.
She was a favorite of InStyle’s fashion director Kevin Hyunh, who said he liked the way she “channeled old-school Hollywood glam.”
Timothée Chalamet: there is no woolen hat
Chalamet was more traditional than other recent trips to the carpet, wearing an elegant Tom Ford black suit in a tailored jacket, white shirt and a blue neckerchief (or was it a tie?).
There was no glitz like the Bob Dylan-inspired look she wore to the New York premiere of her film, A Complete Unknown.
Kerry Washington: Opera gloves exist
These opera gloves are very popular this year: They were also worn by Kerry Washington, who wore a neon pink silk taffeta, also from Balenciagawith a tail.
Ali Wong: fiery in red
The actress and comedian did not go unnoticed on the carpet: she wore a tiered gown made of bright red, fire engine-colored tulle.
Balenciaga combined with a satin belt and shiny black spandex opera gloves, almost to the shoulder.
Tyler James Williams: educate the masses
Abbott Elementary’s Williams never plays it safe or boring on the mat. He was wearing one gray striped suit with a cropped double breasted jacket, shoulder pads and bare chest peeking out, with baggy trousers.
Glenn Powell: a killer (of fashion).
Powell ditched the tie and instead sported a casual look in a brown open-neck shirt and Giorgio Armani black velvet jacket.
Mikey Madison: new fashion star
Few red carpet arrivals were more anticipated than that of Mikey Madison, the ‘Anora’ star who is also making waves in the fashion world this season.
Madison wore a column dress Bottega Veneta shiny gold strapless which highlighted her much talked about fashion transformation into classic movie star glamour.
