The North American comics industry’s premier prize, the Eisner Awards, was presented on Friday evening (7/22) during Comic-Con International, in San Diego, and the winners of the 2022 edition highlighted two Brazilians: the artists Mike Deodato Jr. and Fido Nesti.
Famous for several DC and Marvel publications, Deodato Jr. won the Best Humor Publication Award for “Not Every Robot”, in collaboration with Mark Russell. Nesti, on the other hand, won the trophy for the best adaptation from other media for the comic version of “1984”, the science fiction classic by George Orwell.
Of the evening’s many winners, the most honored was veteran Barry Windsor-Smith, still remembered for his groundbreaking Conan art in the 1970s. He was awarded in the categories of Best Writer / Artist and Best Lyricist for “Monsters”, by the independent publisher Fantagraphics, which also won the Eisner Award for Best Graphic Novel.
