Eugenio Derbez, Alessandra Rosaldo and their daughter were also victims of the California wildfires. Although his home was not affected, the house where Aitana grew up in the first 2 years of and offices of the actor’s production company burned down.
With a lump in her throat, the singer of Senses Opposites recounted the “nightmare” they lived through in the last few days.
“It was a very sad situation to see colleagues and close friends lose everything, to see the city of Pacific Palisades that was our home when we got here 10 years ago completely disappear from the map, see the house where Aitana was bornwhere all the memories from the first 2 years of his life are into ashes“, he said in an interview with Paola Rojas on January 15 for the show “De Pisa y Corre”.
The pair were returning home after spending a day of fun with Aitana and the children of Derbez’s partner Ben Odell, who had lost their home.
“We had eaten, we had taken them to jump, they lost their home, they lost their school, their church, their community, they lost everything,” but being close to home, they received emergency alerts on their phones.
“When we were coming back to the highway we started seeing the flames, the mountains burning in our area, that’s when we started to panic,” he said, his voice cracking.
Alessandra pointed out that they prepared the “documents, passports, computers, the most important electronics. Before 6 in the morning the patrols came to knock on our doors and evacuate us at that time, it was very loud.”
Eugenio Derbez loses his production house
More than a decade ago, Eugenio and his partner Ben Odell founded the production company “3Pas” and their offices were located in Pacific Palisades, an area that was completely destroyed after the fires: “They burned to the ground.”
Alessandra was thankful that she and her family are safe and able to return to their home in Encino, even though they remain on a yellow alert. She was also concerned about the Latinos who were left helpless.
“The number of Mexicans, compatriots, Latinos who are out of a job, not just out of a home, out of a job. We’re leaning on whatever we can,” he concluded.
