Preta Gil talks about the tour with her family and the expectations for “Viajando com os Gil”

In an interview with “Estadão”, the singer celebrated 20 years of solo career: “A sign of maturity and evolution”

Preta Gil celebrates 20 years of her career with a family tour in Europe. Recently the singer has made several posts on social networks showing the backstage of the performances in the old continent.

In addition to this important moment in the artist’s life, he also participates in the recordings of the Prime Video series, the streaming service of Amazon, Traveling with the Gil. This second season will cross 240 countries and territories.

Prior to this experience, the family played a leading role in the Home with the Gilwhich unveils their behind the scenes of a creative retreat in Rio de Janeiro.

In an interview with Estadio, Preta Gil was unable to provide details on the documentary, but is thrilled to have it all recorded for posterity. “I keep imagining that in a few years we will be watching these shots and that we miss this beautiful moment. We are not just working, we are traveling all over Europe, it is a unique experience that will mark our lives,” she says.

For you, what is the experience of doing a show with your family and not alone?

It’s like being at home, it’s so comfortable and warm. Working with what we love is already an incredible opportunity and doing it with the people we love is even better.

Of course, there are a lot of differences between being on stage alone and sharing it with more people, it’s a bigger organization. I have twenty years of solo career, but the adaptation was very fast for me, because this is a common dynamic for us, we always sang together, in family reunions the music was always very present, the difference is that now we do it in front of thousands of people.

Still on this issue, are there any major challenges or benefits?

The advantages are many, no doubt… Sharing these moments, especially with my father, is priceless and they are memories that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. But of course there is also the hard part … lol Family stuff, right? A lot of thinking heads … obviously, there are a lot of divergent opinions many times over. But always with great respect we organize and touch everything lol

How do you feel about this record for the series?

I think it is wonderful! And I can imagine that in a few years we look at these shots and we miss this beautiful moment. We are not just working, we are traveling all over Europe, it is a unique experience that will mark our lives.

You recently had an illness and cannot attend a presentation. Was the routine of the show very busy? How does this work day by day?

I couldn’t do the show in Berlin because as we change country every three days, it happened that the Moroccan dressing mixed with the German food caused me a gastrointestinal upset and I couldn’t do the show. But it is really very tiring, even our body undergoes many changes …

Do shows in Europe have a very different audience from Brazil? How have these performances been different for you?

The audience was one of my biggest surprises, because they are Brazilians and foreigners who are very passionate about Brazilian music and are also fans of my father, and who welcomed us with great affection, our whole family. It’s an energy in the shows that I can’t explain. This is a very exciting show for those who watch it, and the audience has been a catharsis in every country we go to.

Did you find some space for the “tourist” or did your routine not allow it? If so, what did you like the most to visit?

Yup! It’s one of my favorite moments, it’s such a beautiful place, with amazing views! Traveling with the family is always good, and we haven’t been able to be together like this for years. So being together is a wonderful thing.

Was there a show that has marked you the most so far? Because? Or one you can’t wait?

Every show is a show, every audience has something that moves. Each show something different happens on the stage that excites, it is very difficult to choose a show because each has its beauty and its particularity. There were a lot of shows and they were all incredibly beautiful!

Gil revealed that the initial idea of doing a family tour in Europe was his. Has the experience lived up to your expectations so far? What has changed from that initial planning to today?

From the beginning I have never romanticized this journey, I have always known that it would take a lot of effort and discipline to be able to face, physically and emotionally, everything we are experiencing. But the fact that we are a family and that we can support each other makes it so much easier, because we are literally all in the same boat. So even the perrengues and the more complicated things I keep them in my heart, because I don’t have to complain about anything because it is part of it. And we are in a super structure, super refined, from the experiences of my father and Flora of having more than 40 years of touring, Jerry and Maria… They are very experienced people.

But sometimes there are problems, when we arrive in the city, there is no food to eat because everything is closed, sometimes we arrive earlier than expected and the hotel is not available, in short, nonsense.

This tour is also a celebration for you as you complete 20 years of career. What can we expect from the future of Preta Gil? Is there anything you still want to achieve?

This tour was undoubtedly the biggest celebration of my 20 years of career. Because after these twenty years I allow myself to be here to experience all this with my family, and this is a sign of so much maturity and evolution. Because if this project had been twenty years ago, perhaps I would not have accepted it, due to the need to establish itself and find one’s own path. But after all this time, I am now in a place where I allow myself to be Gilberto Gil’s daughter, and to be by his side to celebrate his 80th birthday. He was very generous, I sing two of my songs and the audience responded in a way that I never imagined. So we plan to do gigs here after this tour, I’m also finishing an album that will be out again this year, and I’m still planning on celebrating my 20th birthday in other ways.
