Shakira faces 8 years in prison and a fine of 23 million euros for tax evasion

It is known that now the name of 45-year-old Shakira appears in six tax crimes totaling 14.5 million euros. Allegedly, she did not pay taxes in Spain in 2012, 2013 and 2014. The singer herself claims that during these years she lived in the Bahamas, and flew to Spain only occasionally. However, it turned out that she spent an average of 183 days a year there, that is, more than six months, which means she is a tax resident of this country. The fact that the first child of Shakira and Gerard Pique was born in Barcelona added fuel to the fire, and accordingly, in those years, the singer absolutely definitely stayed there most of the time.

Note that Shakira had to conclude a deal with the Spanish Tax Agency (AEAT) and pay debt arrears. However, Shakira’s legal team interrupted the deal, and the singer herself, without waiting for the end of the investigation, transferred the required amount of 14.5 million euros – it seems to get a refund, but this did not prove her right. Now the dispute will be decided by the court, which requires 8 years in prison for Shakira and a fine of another 23 million euros.

By the way, the ex-husband of the star, football player Gerard Pique, once had problems with the tax service. In 2015 he owed tax authorities Spain 2.5 million euros. According to the tax service, the player underpaid to the treasury between 2007 and 2010.

Recall that the breakup between Shakira and Pique became known on June 1 – a number of Spanish media reported that the reason for the separation of the couple steel cheating football player. Now former lovers are going to sue because of the children. Shakira plans to take her sons to Miami, where her mother, brothers and sisters live. And Piqué insists that the boys stay in Catalonia, where they spent most of their lives. To make this possible, the football player wants to get full custody of the children and for this he hired a lawyer, Tamborero Abogados, who specializes in divorces. Shakira also made a response petition – her interests in court will be represented by family lawyer Pilar Mane.

Pique and Shakira have been in a relationship since 2011, while they were not officially married. The couple have two sons: 9-year-old Milan and 6-year-old Sasha.
