The American magazine claims Will Smith did not want to apologize to Chris Rock

US Weekly magazine said actor Will Smith didn’t want to shoot the video apologizing to Chris Rock for slapping the comedian at the Oscars.

According to sources heard by the publication, he refused to apologize, but was persuaded by his wife, Jada-Pinkett. “Jada encouraged Will to apologize because he cast a shadow over his ‘Red Table Talk’ show,” said one insider, noting that the actor “never wanted to apologize publicly.”

Despite his unwillingness, Will agreed to talk about it, because the matter did not die as he had hoped. “His team hoped that this controversy would gradually subside, but that’s not what happened. It would be impossible for him to move forward without him talking about it,” the same source said, according to the American outlet.

The source also described that, during this period of silence, the actor was “in hell”.

Will Smith posted a five-minute video on Friday (7/29) in which he answered some specific questions about the incident and apologized to Chris Rock, the comedian’s family and Oscar 2022 nominees.

The public reaction was divided. Many were not convinced of the sincerity of the request. Variety magazine also ran an article showing the actor’s basic PR mistakes, which resulted in an impersonal video, in which he shows difficulty in showing remorse and avoids putting himself in a position of humility.
