Marcello Antony said that his decision to refuse a role in the favorite, a soap work of 9:00 in 2008, triggered his departure from TV Globo. As the actor reported, he had been invited by Ricardo Waddington to play the character Dodi, who was later lived by Murilo Benício. However, he chose to join the cast of Ciranda De Pedra, 18h, together with Ana Paula Arósio and Daniel Dantas.
“I went to a meeting with Mário Lúcio Vaz and I asked to do the soap work,” said Antony in an interview with the column of the headquarters headquarters. According to him, the surprise of the then executive of the station was evident:
“You are the first who asks me to do six soap opera and not eight.” Despite the release, the choice generated drastic consequences behind the scenes.
Enmity with the authors
The refusal of the proposal for the first evening would have generated enmity with two heavy names of the station: João Emanuel Carneiro and Ricardo Waddington. “The ego inside have buried any possibility of future invitations with them,” he said.
According to Antony, the veto from the productions led by both, which contributed definitely to his departure from the dramaturgy of the house, was placed.
However, the actor ranked the situation as part of the dynamics of the television market. “Working with TV is to manage the ego,” he reflected. He also added that although he was on the sidelines of the big projects, he felt more relaxed outside the center of the internal disputes.
New life in Portugal and removal from Brazilian television
Far from national productions since 2018, when he acted in Apocalypse, from the record, Marcello Antony currently resides in Portugal. In the European country, it acts as a luxury real estate agent.
According to this, there is the possibility of returning to Brazilian television, but in specific conditions: “Only if it has been very demanding. I am moved by the challenge. If it is challenging, we even give up some things”.
He stressed that at the moment he does not consider returning to Globo, mainly because of the internal disagreements that hit him directly. “It’s part of the game,” he summarized, reflecting on the episodes that marked the end of his trajectory at the station.
