“Brute Flor”, with Leonardo Miggiorin in the cast, makes a season that ends in SP

Director and producer, Marcio Rosario comments on the challenges of making the theater and resistance of companies to support pieces with LGBT+ theme

Two men, a woman and different ways of loving. “Brute Flor” is a drama necessary in times of backwardness of the support for diversity in Brazil. On stage, we speak of love, desire, repressed feeling and prejudice.

Written by Carlos Fernando Barros and Vitor de Oliveira and the executive production of Daniel Chialli, the text has had some assemblies in the last decade.

This time, the cast is composed of Leonardo Miggiorin (famous for soap opera in Globo and Record), Fabio Bianchini and Valeria Silva.

The season at the Experimental Nucleus Theater, in Barra Funda, west of San Paolo, ends on September 21st. There are still tickets available.

The director and producer Marcio Rosario – actor of Globo Soap Operas and Hollywood Productions – spoke with the column of obstacles to be theater today.

Why did you decide to reassemble the piece after 9 years?

Theatrical performances can address relevant topics of daily life, to promote the debate and awareness of social, political and ethical issues. “Brute Flor” is part of various situations, since the assembly speaks of prejudices in relation to bisexuality, homosexuality and, in particular to domestic violence between straight and homosexual relationships. Toxic relationships are discussed and announced in the show.

What are the main differences in this assembly?

We have new scenes with updated texts and special effects that cause and instigate the public of this new production. However, 90% of the text follow the original assemblies between 2016 and 2020 and were seen by over 35,000 people. This assembly is more dynamic and visceral than those of the past, since the world has changed much after a world pandemic.

In the show, two men have to do with explosive feelings, from affection to tragedy

Consider that society is less homophobic today than at the time of the first assembly?

On the contrary, we are resistant when we talk about topics that are still taboo. In the first assembly, much was born on the naked of the actors and little was said to have the depth of the topics discussed on the show. Nowadays, I feel that much is the same or even worse. For example, our show does not concern only two characters, but by three characters who suffer from their choices in their relationships, but part of the media once again strengthens the gay and nude of the actors. I feel in a more superficial world, without a close look and deeply on topics so present in our society today.

The cast and the Backstage team have many professionals from the LGBTQIA+community?

Yes, we have. I am lucky to have such a diversified and talented team. Remember that in our current assembly we continue without sponsorships, that is, we are a diversified and resilient team. Total resilience theater.

Does a thematic show LGBT+ still have difficulty obtaining support?

We have cultural support from over 25 courageous companies, hotels, clothing, scenography, media promotion, catering (food) for the locker room and good gastronomic support. But cash sponsorship is still a great taboo. It is difficult to get a company that has the courage to deal with our show, due to the theme, of nudity and, of course, of a structural prejudice against the LGBTQIAPN+themes.

How was the invitation to the actor Leonardo Miggiorin?

In this assembly, I myself invited Leonardo and Fabio. Valeria, in addition to being an actress, is also a producer. He lives in Los Angeles and wanted to trample Brazilian soil with a strong show. Since I had already seen an assembly in the past, he tried to raise this seven -week initial season. Even without sponsorships we managed to raise the show with almost one hundred thousand reais hit by Dandara Productions and three films of visual shades.

Will the game pursue a career after the end of the San Paolo season?

Yes, we want to manage Brazil. For this, we are still looking for sponsorships for travel and also to continue in other theaters of San Paolo. The cost of a assembly is very high. Many suppliers want to support and collaborate only with musical performances, since they have money to close high values. Another sad factor is that several road theaters are closing. Making theater as the moment I started my career over 45 years ago is practically impossible. You have to make a great financial contribution of your pocket, like Antonio Fagundes, for example, which masterfully produces your productions.

Have you considered the possibility of transforming the text into a TV or a streaming film or miniseries?

Yes, we are developing the script of the show film. We soon introduce you to film distributors.
