Virginia cuts the sugar from the diet and test excessive hunger; Nutritionist explains the reason

Virginia Fonseca recently made a radical change in her life: she decided to cut sugar from her diet and recently revealed that she had heard an “absurd hunger” since she made that decision.

Is there a relationship between the cutting of sugar and the increase in hunger?

“When we talk about sugar, we refer mainly to simple sugar, which is quickly absorbed. Generates glucose peaks in the blood and then fast falls. It rises and descends can increase the feeling of hunger shortly after. When the person cuts the body, the body crosses a phase of adaptation: there is no peak of immediate energy, the body can interpret as the lack of energy and can send the Hunger cards” Ruth.

The expert claims that this is a passage effect. “Until the metabolism gets used to obtaining energy from more stable sources such as complex proteins and carbohydrates,” he adds.

An alternative to reduce this sensation and the desire to eat more is to replace simple sugar with foods that maintain the more stable blood sugar, such as: for example:

  • Whole fruits, which in addition to natural sugar bring fiber
  • Vitamins and minerals

The ideal is to give priority to meals with complex carbohydrates – such as oats, sweet potatoes, full rice – combined with proteins (eggs, lean cheeses, natural yogurt) and good fats such as nuts and olive oil.

“This combination reduces hunger because it increases satiety and avoids blood sugar peaks. Furthermore, maintaining good hydration is essential since we often confuse the hungry thirst”, adds Ruth.
