The origin and barbarism of the monster
The series begins by reconstructing Ed’s childhood in Plainfield, Wisconsin, United States. The small, cold and isolated city was sheltering itself Augusta Gein (lived by Laurie Metcalf), an extremely religious and controlling woman, who taught her children that the world is immoral and that women are the root of all sin.
And he grew up repressed, isolated and dependent on this maternal figure. When Augusta died he collapsed and, unable to accept the loss, the son began to have hallucinations in which he believed his mother was still alive at home.
