Queen Elizabeth II sees “disgusting bug” in food and surprising reactions

THE Queen Elizabeth II96 years old, he is not a fan of recipes with snails, at least so says the book by Charles Oliver, cook of the Royal Family for more than 60 years, who has launched a book on the gastronomic routine of Buckingham Palace recently.

Called “Dinner at Buckingham Palace”, the book includes recipes and anecdotes from the time when Charles was in charge of feeding the Real family. In an excerpt published by OK! Magazine, the chef recounts the day she served a snail meal to Queen Elizabeth II and her late husband, the Prince Philip. However, the monarch did not like the clam on his plate, citing it as a “disgusting animal”.

The feedback, although it seems somewhat harsh, was not given directly to Charles, according to him, Elizabeth II and his family ate their meals with a notebook in their lap. Any criticism, praise or improvement should be expressed in notes.

“One day, while collecting the plates, the staff found a crumpled paper from the pad with the remains of a snail,” said Oliver. According to him, the remains of the mollusk were accompanied by a note from the Queen Elizabeth II: “I found this here in the salad – would you eat it?” He said, probably assuming that the animal’s presence was a cooking slip.
