Yet another former child actress came to the public to sue producer Dan Schneider, responsible for several hit Nickelodeon series, for inappropriate behavior.
Daniella Monet, who played Victoria Justice’s sister in the “Victorious” series, blamed Schneider for sexualizing some scenes in the series.
According to the actress, who is currently 33, the show’s staff asked her to do scenes she didn’t want to do, as they considered them problematic.
“‘Brilliant Victoria’ was very funny, silly, friendly, accommodating. But I wish certain things weren’t so sexualized,” she said in an interview with Insider.
Performing Trina Vega in the children’s show, which aired from 2010 to 2013, Monet pointed to a scene in which he had to eat a pickle while putting lipstick in his mouth. At the time, the artist was afraid that the scene had a sexual character and said that Nickelodeon ignored the fear of her.
He also said the producer made inappropriate costume choices, with the channel’s approval. The Insider added that Schneider dressed the baby stars in clothes smaller than their actual figures, to highlight breasts and curves. And a screenwriter who worked on the series also claimed that every time the actress showed up in a bathing suit, the producer asked her to receive “whatever is most revealing”.
In addition to Monet, actresses Alexa Nikolas (from the “Zoey 101” series) and Jennette McCurdy (from “iCarly”) also accused the producer of overstepping the line.
In his memoir, “I’m Glad My Mom Is Dead,” McCurdy complained that he was mistreated behind the scenes of “iCarly” by a person he called “The Creator.” He says he was “evil, controlling and terrifying” and prone to making “grown men and women cry with him insulting him and degrading him.”
Nikolar took part in a protest outside Nikelodeon headquarters last Friday (26/8) calling Schneider a “child trauma creator”.
